Washington Statewide Shooting Ban Lifted

Sunday, September 16, 2018 Okanogan, WA 98840, USA

With some rain and temps as low as 38 degrees in the Okanogan Highlands, it is refreshing to see the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) lift the statewide shooting ban. However, that doesn't mean you can just go out and start target practice without some necessary precautions. Our fire danger in Okanogan County remains to be on the high side, so please be careful where you choose to practice using your firearm. Cynthia Wilkerson, manager of WDFW Lands Division said "target shooters should remain vigilant" and to avoid shooting in tall grass (1). As of a few days ago, the ground was still crispy dry. You know the deer can hear you! Today, as I walk around the hillsides of the Okanogan Highlands and Chesaw area, the ground is slightly moist. We finally have some morning dew.

Campfires remains to be banned. Smoking outdoors is also prohibited. Smokers are only allowed to light up inside their vehicles. The use of chainsaws are also still prohibited. For a list of other fire-related restrictions, visit the WDFW web page
