Favorable Deer Hunting Forecast For 2016 District 6 Okanogan County Washington State

Monday, September 12, 2016

The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), is forecasting a "favorable year" for mule deer hunting (Fitkin and Heinlen page 5.) The wildlife biologists released their hunting prospects for district 6 (Okanogan County) last month. According to Fitkin and Heinlen, 2016's numbers won't reach last year's 20 year high, however,  the forecast is still "favorable" because of a nice group of 2 1/2 year old bucks and a 16 buck to 100 does ratio.

In 2015, 3,603 deer were harvested from District 6 which includes our area at Okanogan Highlands Outfitters. Our Game Management Unit (GMU 204) produced the best harvest with a total of 866 deer, a 24% slice of the pie! Last year's deer harvest breakdown included the following:

Modern Firearm - 26%
Muzzeloader - 25%
Archery - 35%
Multi Season - 32%

The biologists also reported that there are no fire-related distruptions in District 6 (See Inciweb for the latest fire reports in our area). So, have fun hunters and we at Okanogan Highlands Outfitters wish you the best of luck in 2016!

We invite everyone to send pictures of their harvest this year.
