Girly Girl on Her First Deer Hunt

Sunday, February 24, 2013

Miss L. was very excited entering the deer hunt season in year 2012. Her father was an avid hunter. Miss. L's boyfriend hunts every October. She did not want to sit in the sidelines anymore. Miss L. has become part of the Okanogan Highlands extended family but felt left out when the hunting party clears out. She stays in the camp and care for the dogs. Miss L wanted to partake in this annual event. Even though she grew up with guns and rifles, Miss. L. was not comfortable shooting one. When she moved from Mt. Vernon, WA to Lake McMurray, Miss L. was determined to live a more sustainable lifestyle. She started a small garden and took up deer hunting. She wanted meat for her freezer! Miss L. started her new lifestyle by taking the Basic Hunter Education class offered by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Miss L. showed up at Okanogan Highlands Outfitters in camo clothing excited and full of energy. She has been in the Okanogan area but has always stayed to enjoyed the gorgeous hilly terrain from the porch of the guest cabin. This time, she was ready to participate in her family's tradition of hunting.

Since Miss L. is young and physically fit, we partnered her with one of our younger hunting guides. Jeff started hunting at age 10 and manages to achieve an even fiercer persona come October. Jeff designed a rigorous hunting package for Miss L. The itinerary covers a wide variety of terrain.

Miss L. was beaming with pride when she showed up back at Okanogan Highlands Outfitters' guest cabin with her first ever harvested deer. Schedule permitting, Miss L. plans to join us again for turkey hunting next year.
